Hyperhidrosis - Information on Hyperhidrosis

Hyperhidrosis Information

Hyperhidrosis is basically a skin disease typical to youth, but Hyperhidrosis may occur to the people at any age.

Primary hyperhidrosis is the condition characterized by abnormal and chronic perspiration , in excess of that required for regulation of body temperature ( thermoregulation ). The secretion of sweat is mediated by a portion of our vegetative nervous system (the Sympathetic Nervous System ). In some people (approximately 1% of the population), this system is working at a very high activity level, far higher than needed to keep a constant temperature. This condition is referred to as hyperhidrosis. Some patients afflicted with the condition experience a distinct reduction in the quality of life. Sufferers feel at a loss of control because perspiration takes place independent of temperature, emotional states, or environmental settings .

We have provided you here all symptoms, causes and treatment methods of Hyperhidrosis.

Treatment of Hyperhidrosis

Methods For Treating Hyperhidrosis are :

1) Applications of medicated powder formulated to hamper bacterial growth is useful.

2) Normal antiperspirants or antiperspirants containing aluminium chloride. This works like a 'strong' antiperspirant, blocking the openings of the sweat ducts.

3) Iontophoresis -This treatment uses electrical stimulation to help block the sweat glands.

4) Botulinum toxin injections – This treatment involves many small injections just under the skin in the affected areas to stop the nerves that control the sweat glands from working.

5) Another treatment is iontopheresis. This consists of a treatment of electrical stimulation, usually in the hands.

Surgery is available in extreme cases in which sweat glands are removed from underarms, or the nerves that trigger the sweat glands in the hands can be cut. Following are the two most effective methods of surgery :

I)An operation performed under local anaesthetic to cut out the area of skin in the armpit that contains the sweat glands, or

II)An operation, known as sympathectomy, to cut some of the nerves that control the sweat glands in the armpits and palms.
