Sun Burn is basically a skin disease typical to youth, but it may occur to the people at any age. The condition occurs when incident UV radiation exceeds the protective capacity of melanin in the skin. Concentrations of this pigment vary greatly among individuals, but in general, darker-skinned people have more melanin than those with lighter skin.

Redness, pain, swelling, and even blistering can occur from this over exposure, everyone, even dark skinned persons, are at risk for sunburn. Sunburn can be life-threatening and is a leading cause of cancer. Sunburn can easily be prevented through the use of sunscreen, clothing (and hats), and by limiting solar exposure, especially during the middle of the day. The only cure for skin burn is slow healing, although skin creams can help.there is initial redness (erythema), followed by varying degrees of pain, both proportional in severity to the duration and intensity of exposure.

Methods For Treating Sun Burn are :

  • Indocin -helps in reducing the pain, redness and swelling.
  • calamine or aloe-vira
  • Cold creams and moisturizers will help reduce the pain associated with sunburn.
  • Sun-screen or moisturizer with an SPF of 15 or higher everyday before leaving the house.
  • Don't go overboard and try to avoid the sun completely.
  • Sun exposure and sunbathing produce gradual skin damage even if sunburn is avoided.
  • Ten to forty years can pass between the time of sun exposure and the time the skin shows signs of sun damage
  • Avoid greasy creams as these tend to trap the heat
