Xerosis - Information on XerosisXerosis InformationXerosis is basically a skin disease typical to youth, but Xerosis may occur to the people at any age. Xerosis can affect any area of the skin, although the more vulnerable areas are the face, hands, feet, legs (shins), abdomen (along the sides), genitals, and arm-pits. We have provided you here all symptoms, causes and treatment methods of Xerosis. This occurs when natural moisture is drawn out of the skin. The skin needs moisture to protect itself. The best way to relieve dry skin is to use a moisturizer. Too much water can cause the skin to dry out. Habitually showering or bathing more than once a day should be avoided to prevent dry skin. Causes of XerosisThe cause of the Xerosis is unknown. Xerosis is actually a natural condition, and not always cause for concern. As the organ that is the skin ages, its cells gradually weaken and degrade, losing their ability to reproduce healthily. Treatment of XerosisXerosis is clearly treatable, in mild and early cases, less so in genetic and advanced circumstances. If at all worried, it is always a good idea to consult a doctor. The following are some of the common type of treatment available for treating xerosis: 1) Application of moisturizing oils so that moisture of skin can be protected 2) Application of creams and lotions that contain keratolytic agents, such as urea , salicylate, lactic acid, vitamin A, Alpha hydroxyacid lotions work very well for treating and preventing dry skin 3) Soap irritates and dries the skin, soap should not be used on your xerotic skin. 4) Minimize the number of showers and baths per week and avoid very hot water. 5) A thin film of over-the-counter Cortisone cream applied twice a day may alleviate itching. 6) All areas that are exposed to the sun should have a moisturizer containing sun block or a sunscreen of SPF 15 or greater applied daily. 7) Emollients are creams that can be applied to the affected area to prevent water from evaporating from the skin's surface
